What Is Sandblasting?

Sandblasting is a process where very fine bits of material are propelled at high velocity to clean or etch a surface. Sand is the most commonly used material, but other materials such as powdered abrasives, grits, or sponge can also be used for abrasive blasting. By launching these small bits of abrasives at high speeds, nearly all imperfections are knocked loose, creating an incredibly smooth surface that is ready for a new layer of paint.

What Is Abrasive Blasting?

Abrasive blasting uses compressed air or water to direct a high-velocity stream of an abrasive material to clean an object or surface, apply a texture, or prepare a surface for the application of paint or other types of coatings.

The abrasive material blasts against the object or surface under high pressure – the high pressure can smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, shape a surface, or remove surface contaminants.
